I definitely had not planned on releasing a second Lanterns Awake EP this soon after the first one, The Times and Betrayals of Charles Adrian Lemieure, in Two Parts. The first songs were recorded in April of 2010 and then released on August 22nd of 2010. It’s possible that having this new EP out brought back the idea to do crusty, lo-fi, doom metal again and I set about to record two more songs on August 27th and 28th of 2010. It seems that I even had the same idea to record one song per day, for as long as I could keep it going. This seems to have only had two songs.
Later during that week, I was set to take a road trip down to Edison, New Jersey, when my uncle Dan and my grandmother were to drive my sister Marie back home. I had been in touch with my old friend Howard Change while he was filming his first movie “Lucid Dreaming in New Jersey” and he wanted me to act out a bit part. Everything was set for when I was coming to Edison. However, as usual, my uncle Dan flaked out about driving down and him and I had a huge argument. They ended up regrouping the plan and going without me. I felt completely betrayed by my own family and no one seemed to care at all. This was only a week after releasing the last EP, which itself was about being betrayed by a close friend. This time I had two more songs for an EP concerning family betrayal, appropriately titled “The Unforgivable Truth of a Broken Family, a Contemporary Piece in Two Parts”.
I had already used the family artwork on the previous EP so I was forced to find a new image. I had recently read about Pola Negri and remembered liking one of her pictures. I photoshopped it quickly and added the same font in a true conceptual manner, both artworks were sequels. It is also very likely that I was influenced by Eliminator’s cover art for An The Brokenhearted Balladeers, which used a picture of Bette Davis. Eiman Nejad had asked me earlier that summer to design the layout for that release and had sent me the front he came up with. It is also possible that this was based on other really shitty artworks in the drone scene.
The two songs on this EP were once again titled “Part One” and Part Two” to make it extremely difficult for people to keep track of the songs, especially on Last.fm where the server actually mixed them up. For some reason I later changed them to “Part Three” and “Part Four”. As per the previous EP, after a few months I removed this EP completely from digital distribution and invented the idea that they were limited-time-downloads only.
